Autism

Q Hi, my 6 year old son was completely healthy until I got him vaccinated! He was fine until the school started feeding him junk and allowing him to eat candy, chips, Capri suns, etc.

As a result his behavior changed, he stopped talking, he has drivers, skin problems and everything that happens when you vaccinated a healthy child. I struggle every day, I feel guilty bc I listened to doctor and teacher who I thought were good people and ultimately it's my fault at the end of the day. So he refuses to eat the healthy stuff he used to and I don't know how to get him to eat.

I need help with trying to get him off the sweets, generally I use honey or raisins to get him to eat veggies, drink water, etc.

A Dear Dava, I am so sorry to hear about your son's health issues. I am assuming that he has been officially diagnosed with autism. I am not a doctor and cannot diagnose or prescribe what might be best for your son, but I can tell you what I would do if he was my son.

First, I would find a competent natural health practitioner to get some guidance. You may have to interview several before you find one that has some knowledge in the field of autism and you feel comfortable working with. I have met many natural health practitioners that didn’t have the best eating habits and a good grasp of what a healthy diet should look like. One indication for me is how they look, and another is how long have they been at it. And the biggie.…how many success stories can they share with you that are similar to your son’s issue.

Next I would prepare some green smoothies with greens and some fruit. Make them just sweet enough so your son will enjoy them. After a week or so SLOWLY back out the fruit or use less sweet fruit while keeping the greens up. At the end you may be down to a cup or less of fresh berries and the rest greens. This could take several months as you slowly cut back the fruit.

Greens are critical for good health through cleansing/rebuilding, and they’re also great for overcoming fruit/sugar addictions. Over time as the fruit consumption goes down his body flora will change and he won’t crave the sweets he now does.

Having said that a good children’s probiotic might be a good idea to help jump start his healing. Your natural health practitioner can give you some advice on that.

I have to assume you’re already reading everything you can get your hands on related to autism and natural health, and I would encourage you to continue to do that. You never know when you might happen upon a key piece of information that could be a life changer for you and your son.

The final thing I would say is please don’t blame yourself. As parents we always do what we think is best for our children and that’s exactly what you did. We can’t possibly always know the ramifications of everything. We do our best, and you had the greatest of intentions and you did your best. What your son needs most now is your unburdened love. That’s it. No guilt, just love.

Please take good care of yourself and feel free to return and share good news as it comes in.
