An alkaline diet detox is a special type of detox that not only rids your body of waste but that also helps to balance your body's pH. Your body's pH is the balance of alkaline and acid in your body. When your pH level is not correct you can have health problems and experience many of the symptoms associated with common maladies and dis-eases of the day. When you go through a normal detox you can throw off the pH balance in your body, so you may be reducing toxins in the body but potentially causing other problems in the process.
Perhaps you’ve heard people talk about how bad they feel when they are doing a cleanse or fast, that’s because the cells and tissues are throwing off toxins, that are basically acidic in nature, and the elimination systems of the body can’t keep up.
Instead of doing a regular detox diet you might try an alkaline detox diet. This will allow you to get both the regular benefits of a detox, along with the benefits of balancing your pH levels.
Every food you eat produces either an acid or alkaline residue after it is digested. The main staples of the typical diet are acid producing. Foods such as fish, meat, poultry, cheese, milk, grains, and nuts all produce acid. Foods like fresh fruit, vegetables, and particularly leafy greens are alkaline producing.
In the past, our ancestors ate a diet that was higher in alkaline producing foods, and lived in much cleaner environment. By eating more alkaline foods our ancestors were able to keep the pH level in their body at an ideal range. With our diet today, though, most people do not have a pH level that is within a healthy range. This is where an alkaline diet detox can help. By flooding your body with alkaline foods like green juices and green smoothies your body can cleanse and balance at the same time.
Since most people have too much acid in their body, coming from a poor diet and environmental exposure; this causes the pH balance in the body to be outside the ideal range and is thought to lead to many health issues. This acid producing diet can lead to a lack of energy, excessive mucus, congestion, frequent illness, nervousness, headaches, irritability and weight gain.
In a person who experiences these symptoms and has had other health problems ruled out, it is thought that a switch to an alkaline diet detox could help.
An alkaline diet detox can be achieved by reducing the amount of acidic foods you eat and increasing the amount of alkaline producing foods that you eat. You should cut out, as much as possible, all animal proteins, grains and dairy foods. You should eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, including lots of leafy greens as they are the most alkaline. A
list of alkaline foodscan be very helpful for planning your weekly menu. In general, an alkaline diet detox is a healthy diet. You are reducing the amount of high fat foods that you are eating and are instead giving your body healthy natural foods.
To be successful you would also want to follow the general guidelines for a regular detox by drinking plenty of pure water or green juices, and avoiding alcohol, caffeine and nicotine, along with preservatives and sugar.
In addition to feeling better and getting rid of the symptoms caused by your unbalanced pH levels, you should also see some amazing changes in your body. Your diet changes will help you to eat less calories and fat which, naturally, leads to weight loss. You can consider this a great bonus of your detox diet.
A lesser known bonus of an alkaline diet detox is that by balancing your body Ph you allow your body fat to be released. You see your system has encapsulated much of the toxins (acid overload) in your body in fat deposits to protect the rest of your body from a more immediate breakdown. As you continue to over eat acid foods your body’s response is to produce more fat to insulate you from these poisons, so when the toxins go so does the fat.
This is why many people struggle with weight gain, the added fat is actually protecting their bodies from an immediate health crash, so they’re continually trying to “diet” to lose weight, while it may be as simple as balancing the body Ph.
Juicing is wonderful way to get great nutrition while you kick start your cleansing program. There are loads of great juicing recipes that are simple and quick to make. I have owned 4 different juicers over the years, but find the Hurom juicer to be the best for everyday use. It’s easier to use and clean, which is really important because if it’s a pain to clean then it won’t get used. It is also able to juice leafy greens which I feel is very important. I have two juicers now, and the one that gets used the most is the Hurom vertical slow juicer.
Of course before embarking on any kind of detox diet or diet change you should consult with your personal health care provider.
